Aboriginal Development Coordinator
Work Location: Port Hedland
Roster: Residential or FIFO ex Perth 4D3R
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Aboriginal Development Team. The successful candidate will contribute to the sustainable development of our Aboriginal workforce in order to attract, retain and develop Aboriginal employees while providing a culturally safe working environment.
Reporting to the Capability and Diversity Superintendent, the Aboriginal Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering high quality employee training and development programs. The Coordinator will apply their excellent interpersonal skills to proactively work with leaders, Aboriginal employees and other external stakeholders to identify and remove development barriers.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Coordinate the on-boarding and off-boarding for Aboriginal employees (including Exit interviews)
- Coordinate and lead activities relating to Hedland Senior High School Engagement Strategy
- Coordinate and lead activities relating to all student pathway initiatives (school based trainees, school leaver trainees)
- Work with leaders to Manage VTEC participant on-boarding, work readiness and ongoing success
- Support the AD Superintendent in the triage of Aboriginal cultural and social issues to EEC (once established)
- Support development planning for Aboriginal Workforce
- Support the implementation of retention activities for Aboriginal employees
- Maintain a register of Aboriginal employees to identify and promote promotion above entry level roles
- Work closely with Leaders and Recruitment Team to promote internal and external Aboriginal candidates for all role vacancies
- Engage effectively with key Fortescue representatives in the AD space, and ensure alignment of activities within the AD strategy
- Actively participate in Community activities.
- Active participation with external stakeholders, Traditional Owner groups, Local Employment Networks and Aboriginal Government agencies that develop favourable relationships
- Comprehensive knowledge of Aboriginal issues and barriers that effect persons seeking and maintaining employment
- Experience in planning, managing and conducting structured programs and activities for diverse groups
- Ability to work in a complex and changing environment.
- Strategic and stakeholder relationship management experience will be well regarded as well as working with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
- Sound negotiation and influencing skills as well as the ability to motivate people and maintain a positive outlook.
- Qualifications in Business or Community Management - desirable
- WA Class C Driver's Licence - prerequisite
