The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team partners with all levels of the organisation coaching and influencing to make HSE personal. They provide future-focussed, leading-edge development and delivery of HSE programs that result in significant improvement in CSIRO’s wellbeing and HSE culture. The HSE Assurance Specialist reports to the HSE Systems, Assurance and Reporting Manager and will be responsible for proactively partnering with, coaching, and positively influencing CSIRO’s operational line management and aligning HSE goals to broader organisational goals.

Specifically, you will be responsible for providing continual improvement of the HSE management system by proactive management and implementation of the HSE assurance program, and interpretation of HSE audit outcomes. This role is focused on driving and delivering consistent HSE management solutions to the organisation that will improve the management of potential risks across the organisation.

Your duties will include:
  • Lead the development and implementation of HSE assurance programs to support the implementation and maintenance of CSIRO’s HSE management systems.
  • Verifying the effectiveness of risks controls, check compliance with applicable laws and obligations, and the integrity of HSE performance data, in line with CSIRO’s HSE plan.
  • Provide advice on the interpretation and use of internal and external reports and audits.
  • Develop and distribute regular audit reports including data, findings, trends and actions from internal and external audits.
  • Follow up on corrective actions that result from audit findings, incidents and near misses ensuring that all actions are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with science workgroups, Research Operations Managers, and the HSE team to proactively understand their unique HSE needs and make recommendations to guide management decisions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and agility to contribute to multiple teams, managing multiple priorities, and supporting various staff needs in an effective and efficient manner.

Salary: AU$98k - AU$106k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Relevant HSE tertiary qualifications and/or a minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in the application of HSE assurance processes and delivery of management system audits, plans, HSE assurance reports and assessments.

Relevant HSE management system auditing work experience in a large complex environment.

Proven ability in interpreting HSE legislation, regulatory standards, codes of practice and internationally accepted HSE assurance processes including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 31000.

Ability to influence teams and internal and external stakeholders on HSE matters to provide a seamless organisational approach to assurance.

Demonstrated experience in collaboratively sharing and utilising team resources to provide a seamless and organisational approach to the delivery of the HSE plan.
