The Ethics & Compliance team’s role is to protect BHP’s integrity by preventing and mitigating compliance risks and setting the ethical standards for how we operate in line with Our Charter. We design and govern controls, processes and training content related to ethical conduct, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing, competition, market manipulation, price reporting, export controls, sanctions, anti-boycott or state/commercial secrets laws. Our Ethics and Investigations team manages our business conduct reporting helpline and investigates the most serious allegations of breaches.

Job Description

As the Principal Investigations, you primarily be responsible for managing the contractor secondee investigations team at BHP, reviewing investigations and conducting complex investigations into workplace misconduct. Reporting to the Head of Ethics & Investigations, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Recruit, train, support and act as a key BHP contact person for the Australia and Asia Investigations contractor secondee team.
  • Draw on developments in international best practice, regulatory guidance and learnings from investigations to drive continuous improvement of the team.
  • Perform complex Category A investigations in accordance with Investigations Framework.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to drive the reputation and integrity of the team.
  • Direct the investigation of Significant Matters across BHP’s global operations, including by:
  • Leading investigations;
  • Conducting interviews with reporters and other key personnel and / or third parties to obtain the facts of the issue, including interviews with senior executives; and
  • Preparing supporting documentation for investigations, including records of witness accounts and investigation reports.
  • Prepares Investigations Summaries;
  • Drives continuous enhancement of the Investigations Framework.
  • Prepares Investigation Framework training materials, delivers training to stakeholders and provides assistance to those undertaking business conduct investigations.
Skills and Other Qualifications

To be successful in this role, ideally you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Strong experience as a corporate investigator, ideally from within a multinational organisation.
  • Professional qualifications in legal, compliance, accounting, human resources or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, coaching and influencing with senior stakeholder groups in challenging environments.
  • Exposure to strategic risk management, including the identification and control of emerging risks in a dynamic delivery environment.
  • Budget and vendor management experience would be an advantage.
