About us

H.M Prison Langi Kal Kal is a minimum-security men's protection prison located 140km west of Melbourne at Trawalla. The prison's primary purpose is to prepare male prisoners for transition and reintegration to release. Langi Kal Kal consists of 8 core industries, with a focus on employment and training.

Industries currently operational at H.M. Prison Langi Kal Kal include Kitchen, Warehousing/Logistics, Agriculture, Metal Fabrication, Land mate, Poultry, Textiles and Horticulture.

About the role

Reporting to the Industry Supervisor who is responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within the prisons industry.

As an Industry Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • the management of prisoner employment, safe operating procedures and other OH&S legislative requirements and compliance with prison industry procedures
  • conducting searches and escorts, surveillance, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating a variety of security and industrial equipment, collating information, and preparing reports
  • developing, implementing, reinforcing, and reviewing practice and procedures relating to offender management and security management
  • monitoring and achieving targets including administrative tasks related to financial budgets, materials and suppliers' records and accounts

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • proven leadership, maturity, sound judgement, and confidence in decision-making with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners
  • demonstrated the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and utilize analytical skills to problem-solve
  • flexibility in learning and open to learn new skills as the necessity to rotate and support other prison industries as the business needs demand is a requirement of the role.
  • As some of the Prison Industries operate 7 days a week, Industry Officers may be required to work across a 7-day roster.
  • Textiles experience (desirable).
