Chandler Macleod Local Government Client is currently recruiting a Coordinator Occupational Safety & Health.

Position objectives

Main tasks include but not limited to the below:

  • Coordinate the day to day OSH functions to ensure staff and managers are able to meet their personal and operational objectives and requirements,
  • Manage day to day activities and oversee the key areas of responsibility of the OSH work team whilst ensuring strategies, policies and procedures are upheld and meet organisational needs and requirements.
  • Monitor and review work practices to ensure that the City has safe systems of work and workplace conditions that minimise the risk of injury/illness or damage to property and equipment for all employees and visitors including contractors, labour hire employees, volunteers and customers.
  • Identify, coordinate and where appropriate deliver, training programs and inductions for employees, contractors and volunteers to meet the OSH training requirements for the City.
  • Undertake specific projects and research and prepare reports into identified matters of concern, presenting reports and discussion papers as required and coordinating implementation of recommendations where appropriate.
  • Ensure the City's Safety Management Plan is implemented and reviewed in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements and any City activities, policies and procedures relevant to Safety and Health.
  • Effectively supervise and promote compliance with Occupational Safety and Health and Environment policies and procedures to maintain safe work practices and a safe working environment.
  • Attend as required, relevant internal and external meetings and forums, providing professional and administrative support and input as required.

    Skill Set required

  • Significant relevant experience working at a similar level in the Occupational Safety and Health field, within a multidisciplinary environment and in particular, developing and implementing policies and strategies whilst maintaining a hands-on approach to OSH initiatives.
  • Previous experience in workplace injury management systems and procedures with successful return to work outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate a work team to ensure Departmental and organisational objectives are achieved.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of applicable Federal and State legislative requirements, Standards and Codes of Practice and in particular ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment & OSH), AS/NZ 4801 and ISO 45001 (OHS Management Systems), with the ability to interpret and apply legislation relevant to this position.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, facilitation and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups and to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interests of the organisation and ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.

    The following skills would be an added advantage

  • Working in a Local Government or similar environment.
  • Previous exposure to budget monitoring.
  • Ability to acquire the appropriate legislative endorsements e.g. Construction Induction - Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card).
