Job Description

Telstra’s Safety, Security and Wellbeing team is looking for a Physical Health, Safety & Environment Specialist (Office, Call Centre & Home) to join their team.

As a Physical Health, Safety & Environment Specialist (Office, Call Centre & Home) you play an essential role in leading and advising Telstra in relation to the management of physical health, safety and environment risks.

You thrive on leveraging your passion, technical knowledge and experience in health, safety and environment to inform decision making and drive the development and implementation of key policies, frameworks and programs that enable the business to safely and sustainably achieve its objectives.

Through your excellent communication, collaboration, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills you will play a pivotal role in driving a culture that promotes health, safety and sustainability at the heart of everything we do across the Telstra Group.

Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but are not limited to:

Leading the development and implementation of a health, safety and environment framework and supporting programs and overseeing its ongoing improvement within the operation of our business

Leveraging deep technical knowledge, professional expertise, and excellent communication and influencing skills to act as a trusted advisor to the business, providing clear direction, guidance and leadership in the identification, assessment and management of physical health, safety and environment risk associated performance.

Leading the design of communication and health/safety translation initiatives that align attitudes and behaviours of Telstra employees, partners and subsidiaries with key SSW imperatives to promote a thriving SSW organisational culture.

Leading the collation of relevant sources of information and insights to develop, implement and review enterprise-wide frameworks, systems and corporate policy/standards that continuously improve the management of physical SSW risk across the Telstra Group.

Leading the assessment and regular review of Telstra’s physical SSW risk profile and facilitating the endorsement of risk appetite thresholds and key performance metrics by senior management.

Leading the determination of the control framework necessary to manage Telstra’s physical health, safety and environment risk within agreed risk appetite.

Leading the interpretation of key legislation and regulatory obligations to guide the development of compliance and performance frameworks.

Coordinating the development, delivery and ongoing improvement of industry leading SSW management and awareness programs and strategies, acting as a change ambassador to coach, support and inspire the business to adopt physical SSW management solutions to minimise risk and improve performance.

Leveraging analytical thinking to contribute to the development of a range of reports for a range of audiences (operational to strategic) that provide valuable insights to support senior stakeholders in decision making.

Supporting the Incident Response team and the business in responding to significant physical SSW incidents.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Demonstrated experience as an HSE specialist/advisor, preferably working in a high-risk industry.

A working understanding/experience of issues/restraints faced by line managers in implementing HSE processes and programs.

Sound knowledge of, and experience managing to health, safety and environment standards and regulations.

Leadership capabilities and a demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across the organisation.

Superior communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and presentation skills particularly relating to translating HSE objectives, plans and initiatives.

Project management, research and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to work independently and to handle multiple priorities.

Relevant diploma or tertiary qualifications.
