Victoria Police is a large, complex and diverse organisation employing more than 22,000 employees and is responsible for managing government revenue in excess of $3 billion per annum. 

As a member of the Victoria Police Command, and reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Corporate and Regulatory Services, this role is responsible for leading Victoria Police's human resource function and ensuring the organisation has the ability and skills to respond to changing community needs for service and corporate performance and accountability.

Victoria Police is committed to transforming the Human Resources Department from a primarily transactional and responsive human resources function, to a more strategic, proactive and partnering service that enables Victoria Police to achieve its multi-faceted responsibilities. Increasing the capability of Victoria Police will ensure that the organisation has the ability and skills to respond to changing community needs, improve services, health and, wellbeing for our staff and corporate performance and accountability. The HR Department consists of 430 staff and has responsibility for both sworn and VPS workforces across the organisation. It currently consists of four work units:

  • Recruitment, Deployment and Workplace Relations
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • HR Systems and Operations
  • HR Capability, Culture and Performance

The recent functional analysis has been approved by Executive Command as the pathway for the Human Resources Department over the next 18 months.

Through a high level of collaboration with Victoria Police Command the role will initiate reform activities across the organisation. Overseeing and developing a corporate executive team responsible for enhancing and optimising Victoria Police human resources and technical capability, the role will align people management policies programs and practices to organisational needs and priorities. The successful candidate will also consult and collaborate with external stakeholders and negotiate outcomes that benefit Victoria Police.

This position requires a contemporary human resource professional with superior leadership, strategic capability and a strong partnership approach. As a change agent driving innovation, an understanding of government frameworks, organisational risk and financial resources is preferred, coupled with superior written and verbal communication skills. Relevant tertiary qualifications are expected.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.
  • The position will be located at the Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The preferred candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment security checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
