About the role

The Technical Inspector - Psychosocial Inspectorate inspects the workplace to ensure compliance with OHS legislation, enforces OHS legislation, and drives safety and the prevention of disease and injury in Victorian workplaces. They utilise their recognised area of expertise to provide specialist advice and expertise to the field team and stakeholders. In addition, they utilise their expertise to manage complex, high profile or high risk interventions, to provide support, guidance and co-ordination of activities to other field employees through coaching and the provision of authoritative advice. They also engage with stakeholders in relation to the application of the WorkSafe Victoria compliance strategy.

  • You will inspect the workplace to ensure compliance with OHS legislation; and enforce OHS legislation.
  • You will drive safety and the prevention of disease and injury in Victorian workplaces, in particular in relation to workplace bullying, sexual harassment and other psychosocial hazards
  • You will also utilise recognised areas of expertise to provide specialist advice and expertise to the field team and stakeholders in relation to preventing psychosocial hazards and dealing with it appropriately when it is reported
  • Finally, you will utilise expertise to manage complex, high profile or high risk interventions, to provide support, guidance and co-ordination of activities to other field employees through coaching and the provision of authoritative advice

About you

You are an experienced Health & Safety professional who wants to make a difference. Your communication and organisational skills are exemplary - You have a passion for Victorian's returning home safely every day. You are a team oriented person who enjoys making an impact on your team and stakeholder.

  • You will utilise expertise in Occupational Health and Safety Act and your specific industry sector to influence compliance and to provide expert advice to external stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in OH&S will be viewed very favourably
  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology or organisational psychology will be viewed favourably
  • Experience or tertiary qualifications in investigations will be viewed favourably
  • You have a sound knowledge of the current Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Knowledge in Workers Compensation / return to work legislation in Victoria will be viewed favourably
  • You will have strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact positively with individuals who have experienced inappropriate workplace behaviour
  • You also have a proven strong ability to educate others and facilitate learning
  • Finally, you have excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills and an ability to meet tight deadlines
