About us
The Workplace Relations Team sits within Group Culture & People. The Workplace Relations team are responsible for providing strategic advice, guidance and support on workplace relations matters that affect the Woolworths Group as a whole, whole businesses or business units or entire employee cohorts - as opposed to issues affecting individuals or teams, which are supported by the Employee Relations Team.

About the role
As Workplace Relations Partner, you will partner with General Managers and Heads of C&P on all workplace relations issues, including the development of industrial relations strategies for existing and emerging businesses, identifying and advising on compliance and IR risk issues, and providing general workplace relations advice and support to senior leaders. 

You will also partner with Woolworths Group businesses or departments to identify, plan for and manage industrial issues and transactions that will impact that business or department.

  • Work collaboratively with Group businesses to develop practical, fit-for-purpose industrial relations strategies and tactics to support and further business and Group objectives 
  • Provide timely, accurate, consistent and accessible advice, guidance and support to stakeholders in relation to industrial and workplace relations, and where needed engaging with the Legal Team or external providers to ensure the best quality advice and guidance is provided
  • Work collaboratively with the General Manager of Workplace Relations and the Legal Team to ensure Woolworths Group complies with relevant legal requirements in respect of employment and industrial laws
  • Provide expertise, guidance and coaching to the business around industrial instrument interpretation, industrial instrument implementation and interaction of industrial instruments with other documents, policies and processes
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end enterprise bargaining process (including planning, negotiating, lodgment and implementation) to ensure high-quality agreements that serve business objectives and fit with Woolworths values. 
  • Support and assist with cases and matters before the Fair Work Commission where required, including bargaining disputes and other industrial disputes. 

About you

To be a successful Workplace Relations Partner, you will bring strong influencing and negotiating skills and the ability to work cross-functionally and rally others around a project or cause. You will have exceptional attention to detail and very strong writing skills - specifically plain English drafting ability and capacity to translate complex legal issues into straightforward language. Commercial acumen and a strong understanding of how workplace relations can impact financial drivers and organisational productivity is also required. In addition:

  • Tertiary qualification in Law, Employment Relations, Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management or a related field
  • At least 5 years experience in employee relations or human resource management, with a strong understanding of employment laws and employee relations issues
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating enterprise agreements, interpreting industrial instruments and managing relationships with Unions and regulators
  • Ability to develop industrial relations strategies that are customised to business needs
  • Deep understanding of the Fair Work Act and Fair Work Commission practice and procedure
  • Ability to balance legal/compliance issues with commercial business needs and practical implications
