The Team

The Employment Relations Team provides operational and strategic advice for Catholic Education Western Australia in order to assist in the proactive management of employment relations issues.

The Role

The Work Health and Safety Officer is responsible for assisting the schools and various business units within CEWA Ltd to efficiently and effectively meet their workplace health and safety obligations. This role is responsible for implementing a number of work health and safety activities set out in a 12 month program that will help support the development and review of policies and procedures, within CEWA Ltd that support and promote a healthy and safe workplace

Key responsibilities for this role include: 

  • Provide advice and support line managers in the administration of proactive and effective health and safety procedures.
  • Support the Team Leader in identifying, establishing, improving and maintaining processes for the WHS system to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and the Australian Standard
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and promote effective Injury Management policies and procedures
  • Consult and communicate the requirements of the safety management system to stakeholders
  • Assess WHS training needs of CEWA Ltd and source or develop training as required
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics

Your Background

  • Minimum 4 years experience in a Work Health and Safety field
  • Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Knowledge and experience of working within the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Risk, Codes of Practice, Guidance Notes, Australian Standards and associated legislation
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to influence uptake of safety advice
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports, policies and procedures for health and safety
