About the role:

Reporting to the General Manager of Safety Operations, the Head of Operational Safety leads the design, delivery and implementation of complex safety programs that aim to reduce risk and strive for Zero harm outcomes. The role leads and coaches a team of three Safety Advisors and ensures consistency and quality of execution in the conduct of risk assessments, audits and verification processes, investigations and corrective actions to ensure continual improvement of the Passenger Delivery Function's safety performance to minimise risk and enhance operational performance.
This position will develop and implement processes that support the Safety Management System and enable their effective use by MTM management.

Key responsibilities:

* Full management of a team of Safety Advisors,
* Develop and define the implementation of Safety Leadership and Accountabilities for all Passenger Delivery employees,
* Lead the implementation of strategic safety programs aimed at reducing incidents, injury rates and improving leading indicators,
* Monitor compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), rail, energy and environmental legislation,
* Provide advice and coaching to Line Managers on the development and implementation of effective safety programs to address significant risk areas.

Your skills and experience:

You come to us with extensive experience in a Health, Safety and/or Engineering discipline. You are a strong team manager who has the ability to confidently manage stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external. You are excited by leading change and have experience in the management of this process.

In addition you come to us with:
* Tertiary qualifications in Health, Safety or Engineering
* Knowledge and extensive experience operating in an integrated Safety Management System (SMS) environment.
* Certificate IV in Training and Development is desirable
* Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining compliance with legislation standards or similar
