About the Role
As the Department Manager Health and Safety, you will be accountable for developing and implementing the Health and Safety strategy, systems and initiatives to achieve objectives and lead TasWater’s commitment to providing and promoting a ‘Zero Harm’ working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and members of the public. You will demonstrate leadership and accountability, purpose, pragmatism, and influence.

Above all else, this is a leadership role. You will actively participate as a senior leader in the organisation, and champion culture change and strategic direction for the Department. You will make a meaningful and significant contribution to the leadership of the People & Safety Division and the broader business.

Key objectives will include:
  • Provide expert advice and support to the Executive Management Team to assist them drive safety performance across the business
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Health and Safety Strategy
  • Develop and deliver safety programs and initiatives in collaboration with the business
  • Drive improvements in safety culture across the business through a focus on behavioural safety, and recommend, develop and implement specific behavioural safety programs
  • Develop and implement Health and Wellbeing Programs
  • Provide inspirational leadership and guidance and uphold a positive working environment that reflects our vision, values and behaviours
About You
  • Humanistic and forward thinking leader with the capability to enable a business through your exceptional leadership, engagement and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Ability to bring the Health and Safety strategy to life including the ability to communicate the complex in a way that can be understood by a diverse audience, from the front line to the Board
  • Strong track record in a strategic and safety leadership role
  • Proven influencing and relationship building skills at all levels within an organisation
  • An approach that balances a strategic mindset with strong technical knowledge and commercial pragmatism
  • Formal vocational or tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management or related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent competence
  • Qualification and/or advanced skills in investigations and risk assessment
  • C class drivers’ licence
