Our global manufacturing client is seeking a Site/State WHS Manager to build a robust safety culture in a busy manufacturing site

About the Role

Your responsibilities include

  • Facilitate and encourage the identification, implementation and communication of WHS initiatives so as to contribute to meeting the company's overall business objectives and values.
  • Provide high quality WHS advice, support and guidance to senior and local managers, supervisors and employees to assist them meeting their respective responsibilities under relevant WHS legislation and company requirements.
  • Develop and issue month board and, safety statistics reports.
  • Lead the WHS management systems and associated internal/external audits.
  • Participation and facilitation in risk assessments (Chemical, plant, manual handling, confined space)
  • Lead health surveillance processes
  • Lead the development of annual activity planners for all operations and depots
  • Lead the development and annual review of risk registers
  • Participate in management and workgroup meetings to present performance and initiative data
  • Review and approve safety grams and toolbox talks for business wide distribution
  • Regular worksite visits to conduct inspections, safety walks and general workforce engagement
  • Develop and deliver formal and informal WHS training
  • Request and facilitate external WHS training
  • Conduct incident investigations for significant incidents and near misses
  • Coach and mentor WHS team, HSR'S and safety committee members
  • Participate in the safety committee process
  • Coach and mentor management/supervisor team on risk management practises and values building a culture to incorporate safety into how we do business
  • Participate and coordinate external and internal audits
  • Support and drive senior management team to achieve WHS targets
  • Liaise with statutory bodies such as Worksafe
  • The review of SWMS
  • Develop and monitor annual audit/inspection schedule/s
  • Lead the permit to work system for contractors (non labour hire)
  • Lead the Contractor evacuation process
  • Ensure PPE catalogue is relevant to risks of the operation
  • Lead the random drug and alcohol testing procedure
  • Ensure relevant data bases are kept updated as required
  • Ensure serious incidents are reported to senior management as required
  • Lead the RTW process
  • Lead the worker compensation insurance process

What you will bring to the role

  • Degree or Diploma in OH&S or higher (or working towards)
  • Demonstrated experience in working Lean |Six Sigma | Continuous improvement environments
  • Demonstrated experience in Workcover conciliations
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a high volume Manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated record of planning, leading and achieving organisational objectives and outcomes.
  • Significant success and experience in building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including , regulatory authorities and industry networks
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State HSE legislation.
  • Understanding, or ability and commitment to quickly understand, the key WHS issues associated with the window industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with multiple conflicting priorities and complex problems..
  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, consultation and influencing skills with either regulatory authorities or senior management.
  • Demonstrated workforce engagement and credibility skills.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of personal integrity, ethical standards and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed incident investigation and report writing skills.
  • Highly developed analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including effective listening skills.
  • Proven research and systems development skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and planning skills.
  • Business acumen in relation to cost effective solutions.
  • Understanding of financial management, expenditure approval and tendering processes.
  • Computer literate and competent in use of the MS suite of software.
  • Valid driver's licence.
