Senior Manager Climate Change 

The Opportunity

This role reports to our Head of Sustainability - Climate Change & Environment and works across the Woolworths Group and our Sustainability community to lead and facilitate the successful delivery of our climate change strategy.

This role requires a commercial and relationship-oriented approach, unlocking change through the power of partnerships, adding value through your drive to improve society and the planet, transformation experience, as well as your strategic and sustainability insight. 

About the role
This role is accountable for leading the implementation of the Woolworths Group climate change strategy and associated targets, metrics and initiatives; and will provide strategic insight and subject matter expertise to the organisation on climate, carbon and emissions policy, management and performance.

You will define, manage and monitor the Woolworths Group approach to becoming a carbon positive business by 2050 and use your outstanding influencing skills to engage large numbers of stakeholders and develop partnering relationships up down and across the organisation, in order to embed our carbon transition plan into the way we work. 

About you 

You will have a demonstrated record of progression throughout your career, having worked in roles of similar complexity, ideally within the retail or other complex sector. You will have strong skills in building, developing and managing relationships and teams. You will have experience working within a matrixed organisation, having had success in building and fostering business relationships across, up and down. You will be known for having delivered lasting change and improvements.

  • A purpose led approach to leadership with strong ways of working and be an outstanding influencer. A role model of doing the right thing, acting ethically and with integrity, having appropriate independence.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong partnering relationships at all levels of an organisation, with an excellent understanding of how to bridge differences to enable cooperation at all levels. 
  • A track record of effectively implementing and executing business strategies in a fast paced, commercial retail context. Capable of identifying emerging risks and opportunities and establishing risk based actions. Demonstrate good business instinct and acumen and be able to use this in a variety of situations.
  • An agile mindset, adapt quickly to change and manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • A demonstrated record of working end to end and delivering results through others, in a matrixed organisation of similar size and scale, where you respond to alternative perspectives and interests strategically, unblocking & facilitating connections and collaboration across the business and influence outcomes without direct authority. Building genuine, respectful and trusting relationships and having difficult conversations when needed.
