Position Description

VGA has an opening for a qualified Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Business Partner to join our agile team and be a part of our SHEQ Centre Centre of Excellence. Drawing on your extensive safety experience within the heavy vehicle, manufacturing, construction or similar environment, this role will see you business partner with management to provide safety, quality and environmental leadership, expert advice and practical recommendations to mitigate risk across our facilities. As a member of the SHEQ team, you will work closely with the National SHEQ Manager to ensure whole company alignment to the Organisational WHS Strategy “Safety is our Number 1 Priority”. This position offers a flexible work location at one of our dealerships located in Sydney at Blacktown or Prestons or Newcastle, with frequent travel across the region.

About the role:
  • Act as SHEQ subject matter expert for NSW to provide advice and recommendations, partner with and coach leaders to raise awareness and accountability for the management of SHEQ risks, strategies, policies and procedures as part of their team’s strategic plan
  • Mentor and develop SHEQ site representatives in order to accelerate learning and boost leading people skills
  • Engage with designated rehabilitation and return to work coordinators to ensure injury and claims management compliance, including early intervention, and return to work programs
  • Maintain the SHEQ Management System ensuring legislative requirements, meets ISO and Australian standards, and aligns with Volvo Group Directives
  • Working with the SHEQ team to coordinate group wide wellbeing programs/initiatives
  • Implement and deliver SHEQ training to team members, coaching them on all SHEQ functions and ensure future training needs are identified
  • Lead incident investigations including ICAMs of all serious incidents, mentor Leaders in the process and facilitate contributing factors and root cause analysis to develop effective control measures
  • Facilitate and participate in external SHEQ audits across the business
  • Participate in business continuity planning on all SHEQ matters including SHEQ Systems
  • To demonstrate safety leadership in every interaction you have with others, ensuring a positive safety culture across the organisation.
About you:

Essential qualifications/experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, with extensive knowledge of and experience interpreting the current NSW Safety Legislation
  • Qualifications in Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator with solid knowledge of NSW WHS and Workers Compensation Legislation
  • Experienced in leading complex workplace incident investigations using Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) process or similar tools
  • Extensive experience partnering with business leaders providing workplace safety advice and recommendations, preferably gained within a heavy vehicle industry, manufacturing, construction or similar work environment
  • Experienced in developing and delivering engaging safety and environment training to site representatives
  • Previously lead or assisted with implementing and maintaining ISO14001 accreditation in a complex organisation
  • Ability to interpret and apply the appropriate legislation, standards and guidelines within the SHEQ discipline for the Manufacturing and Retail Industry sector.
