The role of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Co-ordinator is located within each of the correctional facilities and reports to the Manager, Human Resources. Its main focus is to assist the management team within the centre to fulfil their legislative obligations relating to workplace health & safety and to promote the Department's strategic goals associated with promoting environmental services and workplace safety matters.

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Knowledge and experience in the application of risk management strategies and methodologies to ensure the identification and mitigation of risk as they apply to OHS&E.
  • Highly developed oral communication skills for dealing with sensitive staff matters and enquiries and providing training to staff and management of OHS&E standards and processes.
  • Interpersonal skills for negotiating with internal and external stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues.
  • Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing trends.
  • Ability to build and manage ongoing working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualifications/studies and/or Workplace Health and Safety Officer accreditation with the Queensland Division of Workplace Health and Safety would be highly desirable.
  • Experience working with sensitive information will be highly regarded
  • Experience in managing and coordinating a wide range of operational and security functions
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply and interpret OHS&E legislation and procedures
  • Ability to prepare complex correspondence and documents
  • Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, coordinate activities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify issues and develop strategies to provide resolution
