Southern Star Research is a leading Australian, privately owned, medical research company based in Sydney. We specialise in developing new medicines and medical devices by providing clinical research services to a range of clients across the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology industries in Australia and New Zealand.


Due to continued growth, we are looking for a high-performing and motivated HR Manager to join our team. The full-time role will be based in our Sydney office and would suit an experienced HR Business Partner or HRM who has experience in ER, Rewards & Recognition, L&D and Talent Management within growing SMEs.

You will be passionate about people and enjoy working across both strategic and operational levels. As a strategic thinker you look to identify and develop opportunities to create value across the organisation and pride yourself on your ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.


Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the management team, you will be responsible for: 

  • Developing and executing the HR Business Plan to support the continued growth and development of the business,
  • Overseeing recruitment activities, via our dedicated in house Recruitment Specialist,
  • Development and implementation of employee retention and engagement strategies,
  • Delivery of a targeted performance management system across the business,
  • Providing generalist support to the management team and line managers,
  • Review of all policies, processes and procedures,
  • Turning strategy into real and measurable projects and activities ,
  • Regular reporting on key HR deliverables.


About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in HR or related field,
  • 5 years plus experience in a HR business partnering or generalist position in a diverse, services organisation,
  • Personable and approachable communication style with the ability to engage and build rapport with multi-disciplinary/cross functional teams,
  • Extensive experience of employee relations and people and culture issues affecting a services based organisation,
  • Experience providing high level employee relations advice to mitigate organisational risk,
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects with competing deadlines,
  • Business partnering skills and the ability to formulate effective solutions to meet business requirements,
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, continuous learning, WHS and ethical principles,
  • Proven ability to build strong trusting relationships,
  • Proven experience implementing and developing innovative recruitment campaigns in a candidate short market,
  • Experience within the Life Science Industry is desirable
