About The Team

The health and safety team is embedded into the Projects division, and spans all phases of the project lifecycle. You will be leading and working alongside a diverse and high performing team, and become a crucial member of the health and safety leadership team.

The opportunity

An excellent opportunity for a Senior Manager Health & Safety to join Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, reshaping transport solutions and making a genuine difference for the people of NSW.

The role will see you lead the development of health & safety systems and governance frameworks to facilitate the on-going compliance of Sydney Metro teams and contractors with all relevant safety, legislative, regulatory and incident response readiness requirements. Your success will stem from your specific experience within the Rail industry.

What You Will Be Involved In

The role leads the development and continual improvement of a positive health and safety culture, in accordance with Sydney Metro values, for the Project by influencing all staff, contractors and professional service contractors within the safety areas, to ensure timely, effective and efficient performance of health and safety responsibilities. The role operates with a high level of autonomy within the requirements of the agreed work plan and establishes strategic priorities in consultation with the Deputy Executive Director, Health and Safety. The role leads a team of 4 health and safety professionals to effectively implement governance and assurance processes, to contribute to ongoing improved performance across the Project.


About You

  • Specific experience within Rail industry
  • Demonstrated experience providing functional Health & Safety advice, guidance and coaching
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams
  • Strong successful background in corporate H&S systems, governance, and rail safety
  • Understanding of the principles of risk reduction
  • Able to plan, lead and effect positive cultural change
  • Result oriented with a keen sense of urgency
  • Self-motivation and strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on relationship building, team focus and business partnership
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to promote and develop trust with all levels of employees
  • Tertiary qualifications in health and safety
  • Professional membership of a relevant safety body
