About the opportunity

The Organisational Development (OD) function is looking for a solutions-focused and collaborative Senior Manager, Diversity and Inclusion to support University of Sydney's goal of a culture where staff, of all backgrounds, are able to thrive. At University of Sydney we understand the value of diversity in creating better engagement, solutions and services, and our Senior Manager Diversity & Inclusion is key to realising the diversity we seek.

The Diversity & Inclusion team requires high impact and pragmatic leadership to build on the strong progress already made, and to strengthen joint initiatives and partnerships with other colleagues for greater impact. As an advocate of contemporary people and culture initiatives, you will champion D&I outwards across the university through effective collaboration with your HR colleagues in Organisational Development, HR Partnering, and Recruitment, among others.

Leading a small team of D&I Consultants, you will embed and integrate D&I objectives in wider workforce strategies, programs, policy, processes, and systems spanning both professional service units and faculties and schools at the university. Your commitment towards designing people and culture solutions and integrating D&I for maximum adoption will be key in achieving a measurable impact on the inclusiveness of our culture and diversity of our staff.

About you

  • successful leadership and effective management of a team within a complex, multifaceted organisation
  • expert knowledge of contemporary D&I trends and best practice coupled with the ability to drive linkages between diversity and inclusion and other HR practices within a Centre of Expertise model
  • proven track record in delivering successful OD or D&I initiatives and programs with measurable impact and data-driven results
  • outstanding presentation, communication and influencing skills to drive data-driven insights and key messaging to varying audiences
  • the ability to operate at a strategic level with tact and professionalism, particularly when engaging with, and championing D&I initiatives among, senior executives, senior management and university leaders
  • a pragmatic approach in order to effectively address and prioritise key initiatives and development opportunities across the D&I agenda
  • an absolute commitment to collaboration and comfort working in partnerships
  • capability in establishing enterprise-level governance and reporting and experience overseeing working groups and committees.


Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
