Safety and Training Officer 3 days per week, 12 month contract.

The Forest Industries Federation W.A. (FIFWA) is the industry association representing the interests of the timber and forestry industry in Western Australia. We have a small but often busy office representing an important industry sector. We are seeking a part time (3 days per week) Safety and Training Officer to work with our Members on a variety of projects including the rollout and promotion of our new industry training database.

About the Role:

The role will involve providing secretariat services to the Forest Industry Safety Training Cooperative. As such the role will involve liaising with a wide range of companies, agencies and regulators in order to deliver on the project outcomes of the Cooperative and the broader industry.

Working closely with the Chair of the Forest Industry Safety Training Cooperative and Reporting to the CEO, your duties will include:

  • Assist businesses with the adoption and use of the newly developed forest industry training database (a record keeping system to track qualifications and licences held by individual employees across the industry). Including through direct data entry support where necessary.
  • Maintain the training database currency.
  • Ensure the national industry minimum training standards are met across all sectors of the WA forestry industry by identifying training gaps by job role using the industry training database.
  • Identify and liaise with suitable external training providers to ensure availability and delivery of required training, targeting industry skill set gaps.
  • Establish a record of Western Australian forest industry OSH incidents, considering an appropriate level of detail for the purpose of reviewing trends and determining appropriate actions to be taken through the Forest Industry Safety Training Cooperative.
  • Coordinate industry seminars and events on behalf of the Forest Industry Safety Training Cooperative to promote and educate the industry on safety and training initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support for industry safety Code reviews.
  • Undertake regular travel throughout the South West and Great Southern to liaise with Industry Members.

Preferred requirements for this position:

We are seeking an energetic and personable team member who is able to easily build relationships with our Members and key stakeholders. Providing secretariat services to the Forest Industry Safety Training Cooperative you will drive safety and training project outcomes. Experience within the forestry industry is preferable but not mandatory.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • A good understanding of current WA OSH legislation
  • A good understanding of the training landscape
  • Experience and working knowledge of training database management systems
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, communications skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills, time management and ability to coordinate multiple activities
  • Strong administrative and report writing skills
  • Current “C”-class Western Australian Drivers licence
