Fortress Australia, a growing business in the video games and board games entertainment industries, is seeking a skilled HR professional to take on the position of HR Coordinator across our organization.

The HR Coordinator will be responsible for administering human resources activities and programs relating to recruitment and onboarding, managing award rates and payroll advice, training coordination and injury management.

This role provides advice and responses to queries regarding human resources policies and procedures within the business and supports initiatives to enhance employee engagement and performance levels. This role will ensure Fortress is effectively supporting the payroll function and working in line with organizational and legislative requirements.

The HR Coordinator will contribute to the continuous improvement of Human Resources and work to achieve Fortress's vision and purpose.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Coordinate the recruitment process from advertisement placement through to successful onboarding.
  • Assist Executive Team with the recruitment of senior roles.
  • Oversee the jobs@fortressmelbourne.com email address.
  • Coordinate the recruitment process by assisting managers in shortlisting candidates, designing interview guides, performing reference checks on preferred candidates and issuing employment contracts.
  • Develop and maintain induction programs including an online platform.
  • Coordinate with the Tech Team all IT and security access required for new employees.
  • Provide reports and updates to the Executive Team on recruitment activity including making recommendations for process improvements.
  • Provide advice to managers on best practice recruitment processes including legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate the working with children, RSA and other requirements for relevant roles and ensure the database is up to date.
  • Coordinate exit interviews.

Capability Framework Management Program & General Resource Development

  • Oversee the Capability Framework Management Program (CFMP) to ensure all staff profiles are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Coordinate training sessions and seminars as required to help in staff development
  • Review professional development collateral and resources.
  • Identify and coordinate training courses in line with development plans.
  • Coordinate internships and work experience opportunities.
  • Coordinate processes related to workplace volunteer programs.

HR & Training Systems

  • Implement an online and in house training program, assisting various business units in the input of product and operational manuals (to be considered subject matter material for such training).
  • With the Financial Controller, assist the payroll function as required.
  • Assist the Ops team to ensure accurate timesheet information, and the facilitation of a reliable kiosk/portal for employee check-in and check-out.
  • Assist with the development of organisation policies and procedures as required and support implementation.
  • Ensure HR resources, forms and documents are up to date and accessible by all staff.
  • Coordinate staff surveys and feedback and assist the executive team to report on findings.
  • Implement staff recognition and rewards program (eg. Bonus.ly; Teamphoria) attuned to company values.
  • Assist the Executive Team to coordinate the annual remuneration review process.
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activities i.e. leave reports, training reports etc.
  • Identify and recommend effective changes to enhance the integrity of HR systems.
  • Facilitate social activities to improve culture and communication across teams.
  • Produce a regular (monthly) newsletter for internal communications around new employees and performance improvements, well-being and workplace health and safety.
  • Provide concise and accurate details of disputes to Executive Team to manage dispute resolution.
  • Attend to special projects as required from time to time and other duties as required by the Executive Team.

What You’ll Bring:

In tandem with the elements described in the “ About You” description above, you also bring:

  • Experience working in a similar generalist HR Coordinator role;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources;
  • Confidence, maturity and the ability to make sound judgments;
  • Proven experience in coordinating Human Resources activities autonomously
  • Motivated self-starter with proven initiative;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • High level of problem solving;
  • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels;
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality;
  • Excellent organisational skills and capable of meeting deadlines;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Excellent computer skills in a number of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Proven ability to interpret legislation, regulations and awards together with policies and procedures;
  • Background knowledge of Workplace Relations, Work Health and Safety and Workers Compensation laws and practices.
