The role:
The People Advisor will be responsible for People (HR) advice and consultation across the Infrastructure group of MTM. Reporting directly to the People Business Partner and part of the wider Network Assets & Assurance People team. Located within the MTM Infrastructure Division North Melbourne, this role will be responsible for advice, support and the delivery of a range of human resource functions, reporting and projects relating to the employee lifecycle to support the achievement of people objectives aligned to the People Business Strategy and plan.
Main duties:
  • Provide high level advice to ensure the effective application of Metro’s People policies, procedures, legislation and enterprise agreements
  • Support people managers with employee relations matters such as disciplinary matters, grievances, investigations and employee exits to mitigate the financial, legal and reputational risk to Metro
  • Provide operational advice, coaching and guidance to leaders, including participation and/or facilitation at leadership meetings, workshops and forums as required
  • Provide timely day-to-day HR advice, support to managers and employees
  • Work with People Business Partners to support and deliver against all People cyclical activities ie performance calibration, compensation reviews, talent and succession planning etc.
  • Support initiatives that enhance employee connectivity back to MTM employee engagement and drive retention
  • Monitor key people metrics, analyse data trends to derive insights that will influence decision-making. This will include providing reports and presentations on people trends and metrics
  • Support People Partners with business transformations and organisational designs. This includes front-end design work to the actual planning and execution of the changes.
  • Designing and facilitating a range of capability uplift sessions, team building workshops and focus groups in line with business needs.
  • Engage with people leaders on the impacts of new roles, position descriptions, replacement strategies, salary benchmarking, position evaluations.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications e.g. Undergraduate in Human Resource Management or relevant discipline
  • Previous proven experience in a generalist Human Resources role
  • Sound knowledge of current employment and workplace legislation(ER/IR), and regulations as well as contemporary human resource practices, policies and trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and promote HR practices and adherence to legislative compliance.
  • Ability to remain impartial, maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Programs and other relevant database programs.
  • Communication: Strong written communication skills, with an ability to write general correspondence, policies, procedures, guidelines and reports which are evidence based and provide a sound basis for decision-making. Well-developed interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build rapport, interact effectively at all levels and provide support and advice.
  • Organising and Planning: Plans complex project and work programs aligned with business objectives, identifies and secures resource requirements, and anticipates and addresses barriers to achievement
