People Support are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department and deliver timely and effective response to client enquiries received via phone, email and face to face contact. Supporting our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trust in relationships at a people and place level. People Support offer general HR advice along with specialised case management services for issues related to performance, probation, attendance, behaviour early intervention and rehabilitation.

As a member of the People Support Service Centre you will work under the general direction of your team leader to provide general HR advice and guidance on topics such as flexible working arrangements, leave entitlements, allowances, early intervention, performance or attendance. You will be part of a fast-paced operating environment and will be expected to provide timely, accurate and professional responses to enquiries from departmental employees and managers.

The Job
Under general direction of your team leader, your duties include (but not limited to):
  • Providing clear, timely, accurate and professional information to enquiries received from employees and managers via telephone, emails and face to face
  • Ensuring all matters are resolved quickly and undertake administrative work as required to support high quality service delivery
  • Understanding and supporting staff with interpreting HR legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Adhering to records management policy and processes including maintaining data and spreadsheets, archiving and document transfers
  • Contributing to continuous improvement within the People Support Service Centre
  • ability to escalate priority enquiries received as a matter of urgency to your team leader
  • Assisting clients to self-service by helping them to navigate departmental intranet pages.
  • Preparing a range of written material, both routine and complex
  • Participating in discussions at team, branch, and divisional meetings.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to interpret and apply sound judgement where documented precedents and procedures are not available.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
To be successful in these roles you will have:
  • Demonstrated experience within a customer service environment.
  • Experience with using HR information systems such as Aurion/SAP is desirable but not essential.
  • You will be proficient at Microsoft Excel.
  • You will have demonstrated professional ethical standards and personal integrity in dealing with sensitive personnel matters.
