Role Summary:

A standalone HR Manager position, responsible for the full range of HR responsibilities in the region which will include recruitment, performance management, learning and development, engagement, employee relations and internal communications and co-management of Payroll with Finance.

Working with the Managing Director APAC in the management of their organisation. With support from the CHRO, provide advice and guidance in organisational design, structure and management.

Be an active member of the wider HR Team – supporting in the roll out and management of global HR initiatives, including providing insight and input from an Australian perspective

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Support the APAC Managing Director in the management and oversight of their organisations
  • Understand the SaaS and Defence markets to provide strategic insight and guidance regarding recruitment and retention strategies
  • Support the APAC Managing Director in identifying, leading and implementing HR strategies, policies and processes
  • Successfully lead HR locally, achieving the balance of effectively working in a standalone role whilst remaining proactively engaged with the wider HR function
  • Provide business partner support and guidance on all employee areas to senior managers
  • Oversee the Performance Management cycle and lead communication on expectation and requirements. Provide support in line with the global approach to performance management. Ensure strong performance management practices are followed – including quality 1:1 conversations
  • Provide support on learning and development needs; both technical skills development and wider development requirements – in line with the global approach to development. Work with line managers to understand development needs and action accordingly.
  • Run and manage the employee engagement process for all Australian teams
  • Management of recruitment, ensuring cost is kept to a minimum and appropriate assessment methods are used. Interview as needed.
  • Deliver Line Manager and employee training on Performance Management, Supporting Development, Managing Careers, the role of the line manager and proactively be part of designing new programmes to meet business needs.
  • Issue all contracts and employee change letters as required.
  • Actively manage inclusion and diversity across all Australian business areas
  • Co-manage the Australian Payroll in conjunction with Finance. Ensure payroll is accurately managed and executed in a timely manner – seek support from the UK Payroll Manager when required
  • Employee relations issues – coach and advise managers on any employee relations issues which could include performance issues, restructures, absence etc. Escalate to Head of HR as appropriate.
  • HR system – be the local ‘guru’ on use of the HR system for employee self service and able to produce reports as requested.
  • Be an active member of the wider HR team – this will include involvement and sometimes leadership of global HR programmes and initiatives
  • Proactively work with the CHRO to ensure that issues and insight are flagged well in advance
  • Drive to continually improve the Australian Handbook, policies and processes, keeping them up to date and in line with local laws and global policies. Advise managers on legal issues.
  • Use salary benchmarking data as required to advise on local salaries against the market data and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Visit the Sydney and Canberra offices office when required to ensure HR needs are fully managed.

Person Specification:

  • Likely to have at least 5 years of previous HR experience and previous HR Management experience
  • Experience working in a Saas/software and Service Delivery organisation
  • Experience of recruiting in Melbourne and Canberra market
  • Experience interviewing and running assessments from graduate level to leadership roles
  • Must have experience working in a stand-alone HR role
  • Familiarity with working in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Experience of working in a multi-national organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and ensure the right outcome for the organisation
  • Experience of delivering in house training
  • Experience of re-organisation and redundancy processes – have experience of managed exit agreements
  • Creative, driven, with the desire to work in an autonomous role
  • Knowledge of competency based assessment
  • Knowledge of performance management methods
  • Knowledge of Employee relations and understanding of local Laws
  • Ability to come up with ideas for improvement


Salary Range - $90,000 - $100,000 annual base salary
