About the role

The People and Culture Manager is a senior leadership role working in close partnership with the Director - NSW, and the State Management Teams by providing leadership, support and advice in relation to People and Culture policies, frameworks, procedures and case management - with the aim of building the capability of Red Cross to meet its strategic and operational goals.

Key responsibilities

Advise, coach and support Red Cross staff about HR matters at each stage of the workforce lifecycle, including the appropriate enterprise agreement and relevant legislation
Connect across the organisation to deliver effective and consistent People and Culture strategies and initiatives
Be accountable for the implementation of the People and Culture operational plan in New South Wales
Coach, manage and mentor direct reports while building the HR capability of line managers, staff and volunteers
Work with the Workforce Talent and Culture team to ensure effective implementation of the Workforce Development Plan
Apply a high level of financial literacy and management to any budget under delegation
Ensure that all Red Cross workforce related activity is compliant with Red Cross People and Culture policies and relevant legislation.

About you

You will have stand-out leadership skills and experience in Human Resource management. You will be able to show you can work effectively across a complex stakeholder landscape to proactively deliver meaningful Human Resource solutions. You will appreciate that cultural competency is a highly regarded capability of all Red Cross team members, and the successful candidate will need to show experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. Red Cross recognises the importance of maintaining and re-establishing connections to culture, country and kinship to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health and wellbeing.

Selection Criteria

Cultural Competencies

Able to demonstrate your cultural competency and be able to show experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities
Experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture

Technical Competencies

Significant generalist HR knowledge and experience across each stage of the staff and volunteer lifestyle
Demonstrated ability to provide subject matter expertise, coaching, and advice on both staff and volunteer case management
Experience in implementing HR initiatives in an operational context, including policy, frameworks, projects and programs
Knowledge of employment law, including experience in the interpretation and application of industrial instruments
Previous experience in successfully managing and leading a team is strongly preferred, ideally across multiple locations
Demonstrated ability to work at both a strategic and operational level.

In addition, a tertiary qualification in Human Resources and/or a related field is strongly preferred, and an active membership of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) will be highly regarded.
