About the role


Our People and Culture team is going through an exciting period of evolution and growth, with several key changes designed to better service our customers and to deliver an innovative and contemporary people strategy.


The Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing leads a team of 4 which is responsible for partnering with and supporting all employees and leaders of Yarra Ranges Council on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety & Wellbeing.


A member of our Council and departmental leadership teams, this position: sets and leads the implementation of our People Strategy and health, safety and wellbeing plan; oversees all aspects of our safety risk management system; will play a role in re-designing our performance reporting framework and defining what good safety and people leadership looks like. 


Your team is one of three within the broader People & Culture department, meaning this role has input (via your colleagues) into the broader Organisation Development, L&D and Human Resources agenda, and your team is well supported by a full-service People function.

What you’ll bring to our team


  • Excellent values and character based leadership
  • Exemplary customer and stakeholder relationship skills
  • Well-articulated verbal and written communication skills with experience in report and policy development.
  • Knowledge of, and pragmatic experience in, the health, safety & wellbeing field; safety generalists welcome; specialists should demonstrate how their experience translates
  • Experience in, and creative ideas for, taking a good safety management system and making it great
  • Ability to manage and participate in complex projects, prioritise resources in the face of competing deadlines, and succinctly simplify the complex
  • National Criminal History Check (Police Check)

Salary starts from $99,157 per annum (Band 7), plus superannuation
