The Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) is the peak body supporting Victoria’s public health services to deliver high-quality care. Established in 1938, the VHA represents the Victorian public healthcare sector, including public hospitals, aged care and community health services.

About the role

In this newly created role, you will coordinate all VHA learning and development activities across the organisation, including established governance education and mentoring programs. A key function of this position will also be to work closely with members, partners and the public health sector to identify and develop further opportunities that build the capacity of our membership across various health disciplines and operational levels, including boards and executives. 

About you

You have experience in coordinating, developing and delivering learning and development related activities, preferably in the healthcare, not-for profit, or peak body environment. You will have training, stakeholder engagement, communication and organisational skills to ensure delivery of education initiatives. You are a team player with a collaborative mindset and aligned to the vision, purpose and values of VHA with a member-centric focus. 

Key duties

  • Develop and implement a learning and development program with clearly identified objectives, incorporating a variety of effective and innovative learning initiatives.
  • Proactively engage with members, partners and peers to identify member learning and development needs.
  • Design, develop and deliver digital and/or face to face learning solutions for the learning and development program.
  • Engage and coordinate external and internal trainers that will contribute to the learning and development program.
  • Coordinate and enhance the existing mentoring program to support health service executives and Board Directors.
  • Establish partnerships with universities to support and coordinate student internships and placements within VHA and the wider membership.

Selection criteria


  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and/or coordinating learning and development activities, preferably within the healthcare, government, peak body or not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience coordinating Learning and Development professionals including trainers, educational designers and eLearning developers.
  • Working knowledge in designing contemporary learning and development products and services.
  • High level interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and initiative, including the ability to prioritise competing responsibilities and tasks.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Training and Development or substantial experience within a Learning and Development management role, as well as a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.


  • Experience and/or understanding of Victoria’s health system.
  • Experience working for or with a peak membership body.
