As the Director, Workplace Health and Safety, you will provide leadership in the planning, development and implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to manage the workplace health safety and wellness of TAFE Queensland to a commercially viable and efficient training provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the culture and further refine the strategic direction and operational requirements of workplace health and safety across TAFE Queensland.
  • Facilitate and coordinate a strong, collaborative network of regional workplace health and safety professionals to deliver quality safety outcomes for the organisation.
    • Collaboratively lead and manage a team to deliver outcomes in line with the TAFE Queensland Strategic Plan 2020-24.
    • Provide high level strategic advice on workplace health and safety issues including legislative and policy requirements, safety culture initiatives and safety systems to the Executive team, senior management and the regional workplace health and safety network.
    • Manage, coordinate and undertake high level research and analysis activities in relation to all elements of workplace health and safety.
    • Identify requirements, develop, implement and review workplace health and safety management policies, processes, systems and frameworks to support government initiatives, organisational strategic objectives and priorities, including consultation with key stakeholders.
    • Ensure all asset and facilities activities comply with relevant workplace health and safety legislative requirements and TAFE Queensland policies and procedures.
    • Identify key capability and professional development needs within the organisation related to workplace health and safety requirements.
    • Prepare and coordinate high level documentation including correspondence, submissions and internal and external reporting to meet legislative requirements.
    • Foster collaborative relationships across TAFE Queensland and with stakeholders in DESBT, other government agencies and external organisations such as Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, WorkCover and QSuper.

  • Builds and sustains effective working relationships, negotiating shared agendas and facilitating mutually beneficial outcomes in an environment of organisational change.
  • High level ability to lead and communicate organisational processes. Engages with senior management, clients and stakeholders through effective communication, negotiation, consultation and facilitation processes to achieve solutions and influence clients and decision makers.
  • Encourages creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship with the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.

  • Mandatory Requirements

    Qualifications / Requirements
    • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant WHS or Environment discipline together with demonstrated practical experience, knowledge and skills. Post graduate management or business related qualifications will also be an advantage.
