About Us

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is a major national organisation responsible for managing infrastructure maintenance, capital upgrades and the movement of trains on the Hunter Valley coal rail network and interstate railway track across South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. ARTC is also delivering the $10 billion Inland Rail infrastructure project connecting Melbourne and Brisbane.

About the Position

To collect, compile and analyse HR data, metrics and statistics and apply this data to make recommendations to key stakeholders undertake workforce statistical analysis and research to inform the development of ARTC/IR people programs, and demonstrate implications of these trends, progress and potential setbacks.


The position is 6 month temporary specified and the locations considered for this position are Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane

Key Responsibilities 

  • To have in place a reporting framework to collect, analyse, prepare a range of HR metrics and reports (regular and adhoc) to support key performance indicators and workforce planning outcomes aligned to business/people strategy.
  • Actively establish and maintain a HR metrics dashboard and scorecard, developing documentation and support materials for workforce planning techniques and tools, examining and identifying key trends and gaps in the data using traditional and advanced methods, workforce planning reporting and analysis to meet business needs.
  • Research, interpret, monitor and advise/make recommendations on workforce status, trends, projections and predictions to contribute to the redress of workforce issues to meet business needs.
  • Identify current and emerging data and/or information requirements; and develop, implement and evaluate statistical models to support business needs.
  • Provide advice as subject matter expert on all key HR reporting systems. This includes identifying reporting and analysis problems and working with management to resolve them, understand and reconcile gaps/overlaps/apparent contradictions among and within reports and reporting tools, investigate possible methods of improving data collection and reporting processes, and ensure compliance to HR reporting quality standards to meet business needs.
  • Ownership of required reporting to external parties, e.g. annual WGEA reporting and quarterly ABS vacancy reporting
  • External Market Analysis and benchmarking against external industry standards as required
  • Ensure data integrity of any of the HR Systems by establishing processes and controls, undertaking regular checks, and conducting audits, to ensure compliance and the minimisation of financial and legislative risk.
  • Ensure timely feedback to team on performance, operational issues, and change processes
  • Promote a safety culture within the team to conform with current Work Health and Safety (WH&S) and relevant Rail Safety legislation.


The talent you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will possess skills and experience in the following:

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification or significant work-related experience in a human resources or business-related field, including knowledge of HR best practice
  • A level of knowledge of the science behind what we do, with understanding of key processes coupled with experience in HR data analytics and reporting, workforce planning and systems management
  • High level communication and consultation capability with a solutions focus and ability to articulate complex analytical concepts to a variety of stakeholders and audiences with impact and credibility.
  • Effective research and a high proficiency in the use of Excel and data extraction/manipulation for the purposes of analysing and presenting high-level reporting
  • Excellent analytical and insights skills, including the ability to work with complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Human Resources information system to extract data for reporting and analysis purposes.
  • High level of numeric and conceptual reasoning ability.


Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in business or related field.
  • Experience in undertaking job analysis and evaluation.
