The Role

Suncorp’s Specialist Advice team is responsible for providing timely and pragmatic advice to internal clients across the full suite of employee relations and safety and wellbeing matters, including support on all escalated and complex people issues and initiatives. We’re looking for an experienced People & Culture Advisor to join our high performing, collaborative team as a trusted advisor to the business.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Manager, Specialist Advice, you will provide commercially balanced and risk conscious advice on complex people issues, by:
  • Working across a broad range of employment and safety matters, including complex case management, workers’ compensation claims, safety and wellbeing advice and support (including risk management), organisational change, legislative compliance, executive matters, third party relationship management, and emergency & incident response management.
  • Acting as an escalation point and providing coaching and guidance on complex employment and safety & wellbeing queries.
  • Managing employment related claims and representing Suncorp in the Fair Work Commission and related employment tribunals.
  • Leading projects and initiatives which mitigate key risks and improve safety performance, working collaboratively with stakeholders across the broader People & Culture team and the business.
  • Identifying and reporting on trends and emerging people risks, developing and reviewing policies for continuous improvement, and contributing to cross training and upskilling across advisory areas.
  • Utilising our case management system to track and record all queries to ensure the team have access to quality data from which to extract insights for our clients.


Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Employee Relations, Human Resources, or relevant workplace health and safety qualifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in employment law, employee relations, and/or workplace health and safety, with in-house experience highly regarded.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including before a senior executive audience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and consultative approach.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks, work to deadlines and deliver on competing priorities.
