About The Role

We are looking for an Environmental Advisor to join the BSL Environmental Team. Working alongside other enthusiastic professionals the primary focus of the role is to further enhance the environmental culture at BSL by being an environmental change agent.

Specific focus areas include air and water management, land use stewardship, waste elimination and HSEQ Management Systems. Emphasis is placed on statutory compliance, reducing liabilities/impacts, maintaining BSL’s reputation, continuous improvement and cost effectiveness.

What You Will Bring

The successful candidate will be tertiary qualified in Environmental Engineering or a related field and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial environment. You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills. Together with a sound knowledge of government authorities and regulations, you will also have experience in championing environmental improvement.

The following would be advantageous to the position
  • Previous experience in ground water and/or air management
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma

Where you will be working

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
