The role

Reporting into the GM Supply Chain Execution, The Safety Manager will be required to bring technical knowledge and process to establish and drive a shared Safety vision that is recognized by staff, customers and competitors within the industry. They will lead and develop the Chobani networks’ Safety and program and have the ‘courage’ to implement World-Class standards and initiatives within a growing and evolving manufacturing site, Offices, D.C and mobile staff.

Building on Chobani’s already high safety standards, processes and policies, the Safety Manager will be responsible for leading, training and mentoring the safety committee and all staff in areas of risk assessment, traffic management, managing chemical processes, audit leadership, injury management, manual process improvement and increasing the shared safety behaviours and overall safety culture. They will develop the long-term safety strategy and encourage all staff to be safety leaders through facilitation and empowerment.

The Safety Manager will be familiar with all current codes of practice and liaise with government bodies and regulators including Worksafe and Work Cover to ensure the plant is in compliance with national and global safety standards.

You will be a strong leader, a strategic thinker, visible and have proven experience in OH&S, bringing in technical knowledge. Someone that can provide positive reinforcement and influence the site leaders. At the floor level, you will be responsible for implementing, improving and/or maintaining manufacturing safety basics including, but not limited to LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, traffic management, safety visuals, chemical/dangerous goods management, and manual handling processes. 

You will possess the ability to engage all members and bring them on a strong journey towards safety excellence.

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or similar discipline 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a food manufacturing industry with proven exposure to safety, investigations, health and training systems, compliance and coaching and mentor, consultative and inclusive approach. 
  • Facilitated/developed risk assessments, with prior experience in running a strong behaviour program in safety and undertake site health and safety audits
  • Ability to engage and influence at all levels and possess a genuine passion and enthusiasm for workplace safety. You will be a strong communicator, bring a "think before you do" mentality to all around you. 
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities in positive change management, including abilities to coach
